The Landing Page That Sells: 9 Elements That Convert | Codex WP

A landing page is not a smaller home page. A home page serves everyone
— it introduces, explains and links onward. A landing page has one audience
and one goal: to make a specific visitor take a specific action. Every link
that is not that action is an exit.

1. A promise, in the headline

The headline should not describe who you are — it should state what the
visitor gets. “We are a web design company” is a description. “A website that
turns visitors into customers, in 30 days” is a promise, and a promise
attracts.

2. A sub-headline that says how

The headline makes the claim; the sub-headline makes it credible — for
whom, how, and in what timeframe. No hype, no filler.

3. One action, repeated

Pick a single conversion: a call, a form, a booking. Then repeat the same
action down the page, in the same words. Two competing actions halve both.

4. Proof, early

Claims are cheap. Put something verifiable near the top: a client name, a
real number, a screenshot of results, a testimonial with a job title. Proof
before persuasion.

5. Benefits before features

“Mobile responsive” is a feature. “Your customers can buy from you on the
phone they are holding right now” is the benefit. Lead with the benefit, then
support it with the feature.

6. A visible next step, always

However far someone scrolls, the next step should be on screen or one
obvious scroll away. Long pages convert when the action is never more than a
gesture distant.

7. Objection handling

Every visitor has a reason not to act: price, trust, timing, risk. Answer
them on the page — a warranty, a free consultation, a clear process, an
honest FAQ. Unanswered objections do not disappear; they leave.

8. Speed and mobile first

A landing page is judged on a phone, often on a mediocre connection. Slow
pages lose the visitor before the promise is even read. Design mobile first
and treat speed as part of the message.

9. A short form

Every extra mandatory field costs conversions. Ask only what you need to
reply usefully — usually a name and one way to reach the person. Qualify
later, on the call.

The mistakes that quietly cost you

Build it, then measure it

Publication is not the end. Track how many visitors reach the page and how
many act, then change one thing at a time and watch the number. A landing
page is a product, not a poster. If you would like one built — or your
current page reviewed and rebuilt —
